  1. Yes and no. Yes because everything it knows has been programmed into it and it has a much larger memory capacity, and is capable of using all it's memory, unlike us humans. We have to work hard to use most of our brain. No because people are technically the ones who supply Watson with it's knowledge. So without people Watson would just be a piece of scrap metal.

  2. No,Because he was programmed with thousands if not millions of lines in text that he simply needs to search through hardware to look for.Humans do forget certain peices of information when robots do not. Also the robot was programmed by humans...so technically he is par to our knowledge, just quicker to execute and remember information.

  3. It is possible that Watson MAY be "smarter" than the Jeopardy! champions, as the information that Watson is equipped with may be unknown to these men. But in reality, he is most likely NOT smarter than these men because he is simply a simulation of intelligence.

  4. Maybe a yes and a no. Yes because "Watson" was design to play this game. As a result, "Watson's" memory is greater than any human memory. At the same time, it takes human a while to recall the things they have learned.
It will also be a no because Watson was programmed by researchers to preform that certain task because it is the people who tell the computer what to do, so the computer can not perform without the people's command.

  5. I believe that Watson is more knowledgeable, rather than smarter, that the other two contestants on Jeoprady! Watson knows tons of information that the programers stored in him, and is quicker to spit it out than Jennings and Rutter, thanks to his quicker-than-human reaction time. However, even with all these advancements in AI, I would like to think that humans are still better at adapting, reacting differently, and being "smarter," should a situation call for it.

  6. It depends what you consider "smarter" to be, in terms of memorizing facts and data, Watson is unparalleled. However, Watson does not have infinite knowledge, common sense and personal questions can elude it. IBM cannot factor in every possibility. If you asked Watson an open question such as "What came first the chicken or the egg?" it wouldn't be able to answer it because there is no factual answer, its a matter of opinion.

  7. No it doesn't make it smarter than them. Humans made Watson. It's programmed to answer, unlike humans we learn and build our knowledge. Watson does what we program it to do, it doesn't have a will of it's own. Therefore making us smarter.

  8. No it doesn't, because Watson did not actually learn the information asked. The data was input into the computer itself, therefore Watson cannot be deemed smart since it put no efforts into learning. Also, Watson did not have human emotions like nervousness to distract its peformance, thus giving it an advantage over the two human contestants.

  9. I don't think it makes the computer 'smarter.' The computer is able to store millions of pieces of information that it can access at anytime it sees fit. Humans have to think about the answer and see if they can see find a way to articulate it. Also, humans designed and created Watson. He may be able to answer most of the questions, but the reason he is able to is because of humans.

  10. If Watson was a human it would mean that it is smarter than the other two. But Watson's intelligence can not be compared to humans because it was programmed to be knowledgeable. The amount of knowledge it knows depends on the programer, whereas, humans learn through experience. The two are in comparable to Watson because when it comes to the knowledge of a human and a robot are not the same.

  11. No, just because Watson beat two Jeopardy does not mean it is smarter than them. This is because we humans are the ones who created Watson, and everything it knows is from us. If it is made behave like a human, it is not suppose to be smarter.

  12. Watson may be smarter then humans but on some questions Watson was slower then humans. The only knowledge Watson knows is the knowledge that they put in him, Humans can react faster then machines
